April, 2011: Karen Himle, "The Gift of Scars"
Minnetonka Community Center
What happens when you think you are doing the right thing and it appears to turn out the wrong way? Karen Himle recently served as the Vice President for University Relations at the University of Minnesota. She found herself in the midst of a conflict while in this position which has created both "scars" and life lessons. She is here tonight to speak of her experiences and some of those lessons.
Karen is a graduate of the University of Nebraska with a bachelor's degree in Business Administration and went on for her law degree from the University of Nebraska College of Law in 1980. She initially worked in state government and then moved on to the natural gas industry. From there she spent the next 17 years of her career with the St. Paul Companies where she worked her way up to senior vice president of corporate and government affairs. Prior to her current position at the University, Karen was the executive vice president of Children's Hospitals and Clinics and the president of the hospitals foundation.
She also served as host on various TPT's programs including "Almanac Midweek" from 1990 to 1994.
Karen resides in Minnetonka, Minnesota with her husband and two daughters.
